Greater Manchester have announced 3,000 Job Cuts!

21st November 2010
Dave Prentis, general secretary

Greater Manchester Police have announced 3,000 job cuts this week.  This is a real blow for community safety in Manchester, and sadly, it's just the tip of the iceberg.
The scale of cuts outlined in the CSR has led to forces across the country drawing up plans for axing thousands of police, staff and PCSOs.  This blows yet another of the Tories' claims that they are protecting frontline services, out of the water.
UNISON is campaigning against these savage cuts, which are driven by ideology not necessity.  There are real alternatives that the coalition won't consider.  They are more interested in protecting their friends in the City, than safeguarding jobs and public services.
